Tigo, the largest cellular operator in Paraguay, wants to turn phones into wallets. Appealing to the public's needs, the service might be massive.
Inspired by African countries where mobile phone have proven to be successful as a means of payment, Tigo Paraguay, owner of the 60% of mobile market in this country and a subsidiary of Millicom International, decided to enter the field. In 2008, Tigo released Mobile Cash Paraguay SA, in order to include alternatives services in its menu, such as payment services, basic services and purchase of air time, among other possibilities.
